Responsible Habitat Creation
We are lucky enough to be involved in some very exciting developments within the power sector. A large scale programme within the Peak District has provided an inspiring opportunity to plant over 5000 native trees covering an area of 3.6 hectares.
As part of our pledge to produce less waste and reduce our carbon emissions, we have implemented a number of innovative solutions to this tree planting project.
To limit waste plastics produced by thousands of plastic tree shelters, we will be using Tubex nature biodegradable shelters, designed to bio-degrade as the tree grows. This limits waste produced by plastic shelters, and CO2 emissions released during end of life collection and disposal.
Creating a strong, diverse environment with the ability to support the widest variety of native species is our principle goal when creating new habitats. We strive to develop robust habitats which support a broad variety of native fauna and can withstand a continuously changing climate. A handful of species which will be integrated back into the Peak District landscape through this project include; Oak, Rowan and Silver birch. Thousands of trees will also contribute to reinstating over 100 metres of new hedgerow, an imperative aspect of our native countryside.
